Luis Diaz gives Liverpool TWO demands

Transfer talk around Luis Diaz has been increasing over the last week or so. The 28-year-old is out of contract at Anfield in 2027 and there remains a standoff over a new deal.

He was one of Liverpool’s most effective attackers last season - scoring 13 times as the Reds won the Premier League title but there are no guarantees over Diaz’s future.

It’s previously been reported that Diaz would like to extend his contract at Liverpool but it would take a pretty sizeable salary increase for that to happen.

Diaz first signed for the Merseysiders back in January 2022 from Porto for £37.5m. Since then he’s not had an extension - or a pay rise - meaning he remains on the reported £55k per week or so that he agreed to in the first place.

Barca and Bayern in frame for Diaz

Barcelona have had him in mind for a long time - with Deco their sporting director believing he is the dream signing for the Catalan attack.

Bayern, meanwhile, have kicked up their interest in recent days owing to their problems in attack. They have lost Jamal Musiala for the long term due to injury and Leroy Sane has joined Galatasaray.

But the Bavarians are refusing to pay anything over around €60m for Diaz, given his age and the fact he only has two more years on his deal.

Renew my contract or sell me says Diaz

Saudi clubs are probably best positioned to pay the Reds’ reported €80m asking price but there are no indications that a move to the Middle East is on Diaz’s agenda.

Now comes a report in TBR Football which claims Diaz has issued his club with TWO demands during this summer transfer window.

The first demand is that he would like a new contract on significantly improved terms. Interested clubs have been informed that Diaz is seeking around £140k to £150k per week in contract negotiations.

Right now it’s more likely that Liverpool will let his current contract elapse than renew on those terms. And the second demand is that Diaz wants to be SOLD if no contract can be agreed.

Where will Luis Diaz end up?

“Diaz would either like a new contract with salary increase or, failing that, he would leave Anfield and go elsewhere,” a report reads.

The status quo is unlikely to continue much longer otherwise the Reds could have an unhappy player on their hands.

But club bosses including Richard Hughes must weigh up very carefully whether Diaz is worth a vastly improved contract over the course of another three or four years.
