Luis de la Fuente draws up 57-man shortlist for Spain’s Euro 2024 squad – including two injured players | OneFootball

In less than two weeks’ time, Spain’s squad for this summer’s European Championship will be announced by head coach Luis de la Fuente. La Roja can take 26 players to Germany as they target a third success in the competition, and ahead of the reveal, the list of those that will be going has been whittled down.

As per Relevo, de la Fuente has created a 57-man pre-list, which has been sent to each of the clubs whose players have been selected. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Barcelona have the most with eight: Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Alejandro Balde, Pedri, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres – although Balde and Gavi are there, neither will be called up as they can unavailable due to injury.

Real Madrid have multiple names on the list, including Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez and Joselu Mato, all of whom have a very realistic chance of getting the call. Atletico Madrid have at least four: those being Koke Ressurrecion, Marcos Llorente, Rodrigo Riquelme and Alvaro Morata.

Athletic Club are also well-represented on de la Fuente’s list, with Unai Simon, Dani Vivian, Aitor Paredes, Oihan Sancet and Nico Williams, as well as incoming signing Alvaro Djalo, who has never been called up by La Roja. Valencia have Jose Gaya and Pepelu are realistic candidates, while Real Betis have Isco and Pablo Fornals.

It remains to be seen who gets the nod from de la Fuente, but there’s no doubt that Spain will take a very strong squad for Euro 2024. They won the Nations League last summer, can they pick up another trophy this time around?
