Italy have confirmed that Luigi Di Biagio will take temporary charge of the national team.
The Azzurri have been looking for a coach since Gian Piero Ventura was sacked following their failure to reach the World Cup.
And the new vice-commissioner of the Italian Football Federation, Alessandro Costacurta, has revealed that the current manager of the country’s Under-21s will be on the bench for the senior side over the next few months.
“I’ll call Di Biagio: he’ll be the caretaker, although we hope he will. If he wins our next three friendlies 4-0, we should think about him,” he told Calcio Mercato.
“However, for now he must be considered the Coach of our Under 21s and our caretaker.”
Italy’s next few friendlies will be against Argentina, England and Saudio Arabia.
The favourite to take over full-time is Carlo Ancelotti.
