Manchester City have announced that Lucy Bronze will depart the club following the conclusion of her contract on 30 June, bringing an end to her second spell at the Academy Stadium

Bronze has spent five years in Manchester either side of a three-year stint at Lyon.

The 30-year-old rejoined City in 2020 and added second FA Cup and Continental Cup titles to her trophy cabinet from her first spell at the club.

"Manchester City would like to express their gratitude and thanks to Lucy for her contributions during her two spells at the club and wish her all the best for the future," a statement released on the Manchester City website read.

Bronze has been linked with a move to the NWSL, with her preference reportedly a club on the west coast of America.

The right-back has a long standing affinity with the United States having spent a year at the University of North Carolina as a teenager.

Bronze told 90min in February what a formative experience her brief time in the States was. Having been misunderstood at times in England due to her all-action style on the pitch and shy nature off it, playing in America enabled her to find a winning mentality that resonated with her own for the first time in her career.

"I think it was the most comfortable I’d ever felt was being out there - being around players who were just as competitive as I was, who played the game hard and ran fast, run through brick walls like I did," Bronze said.

"[They] never apologised for being a strong, confident person on the pitch. That experience really was an eye opener for me in terms of being so misunderstood in England, going to America and realising these Americans, they’ve been so successful the US team, and they had a lot of attributes that I had mentally."
