Flamengo fans who were dreaming of a return of Jorge Jesus as manager are seemingly about to have those hopes crushed.

Several outlets have reported that the 67-year-old flew to Turkey on Tuesday night to put the finishing touches to a deal with the Süper Lig outfit.

Jesus is still revered by the Flamengo faithful after he led them to incredible success in 2019/2020.

Under his stewardship, the Rubro-Negro won the Brasileirão, Copa Libertadores, Supercopa do Brasil, Recopa Sudamericana and Campeonato Carioca.

They also came up just short against Liverpool in the Fifa Club World Cup final.

Jesus left Flamengo in August 2020 to take over at Benfica in his native Portugal. However he did not enjoy similar success in his homeland, and exited last December.

With Jesus out of work and current Mengão manager Paulo Sousa enduring a difficult start to his tenure, there was speculation that an emotional reunion could be in the offing.

But Fenerbahçe are set to put paid to those romantic notions, with AS reporting that they will pay Jesus €7m a year.

That’s over double the €3m he was being paid in Lisbon, and significantly more than the €4m he was on in Rio de Janiero.
