Danny Welbeck has returned to his former home and has given Brighton the lead against Manchester United.

United had started brightly with Erik ten Hag’s side going close a few times in the opening 20 minutes.

But that was all undone as the Seagulls hit the Red Devils on the break, with Welbeck slotting home from inside the area.

It’s Welbeck’s first goal of the season but, understandably, the celebration was rather muted.

He has now found the net against his boyhood club four times in the top flight, more than any of their former players.

It also means that Brighton are now the Premier League’s leading goalscorers this term with 13.
