Luciano Spalletti has been announced as the new Italy national team head coach, signing a deal until 2026.
The vastly experienced 64-year-old replaces Roberto Mancini, who surprisingly resigned earlier in the month.
Spalletti most recently was the manager of Napoli, where he ended the club’s 33-year title drought in his one stunning season in charge.
Previously he has also managed Roma and Inter Milan amongst other sides but this is his first foray into the international game.
His first games in charge will be a pair of EURO 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine in September.
