The Scudetto appears destined to wing its way to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for a first time since 1990 after Spalletti’s side opened up a 19-point cushion at Torino on Sunday.
But despite the double-figured advantage over second-placed Lazio, the Partenopei coach maintains that his champions-elect are not in danger of becoming complacent as they head into the final 11 games of the season
“We are hungry and once again when I went to speak to the players before the game, I got the real feeling of how much they care,” said Spalletti.
“They are made of something different to those who could be sated by success. They want to be something, to be someone.
“There is a Neapolitan saying: ‘Those who are hungry don’t feel sleepy.’ That sums up our team.”
Napoli’s imperious domestic form is likely to come in handy as they attempt to navigate a potential all-Italian route into the Champions League final after being drawn against AC Milan in last eight. The winner of that tie will be paired with whichever team progresses from Inter’s quarter-final with Benfica.
