Heading into the final few moments of his side's match Ligue 1 match against Troyes on Wednesday evening, Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta had plenty of reasons to be in high spirits.

Trailing to a strike from Troyes' Xavier Chavalerin at half-time, Lyon battled back to lead in the second period, thanks to goals from ex-Liverpool man Xherdan Shaqiri and Chelsea loanee Emerson Palmieri.

Paqueta then put the icing on the cake with his side's third of the evening, helping them to their third victory of the season in the French top-flight.

With the three points safely in the bag, Paqueta decided to have a little fun deep into stoppage time. Lyon were in possession by the corner flag, seemingly content to coast to the final whistle when Pacqueta decided to entertain the crowd at Groupama Stadium with a little showboating.

The 24-year-old cheekily tried to beat a Troyes defender at the byline by attempting a rainbow flick. It almost landed too, but the opposition player managed to get his body in the way of the ball.

Moments later, Paqueta was surprisingly booked by referee Stephanie Frappart. While the Lyon man did make a brief enquiry as to whether the Troyes defender had used his hand to prevent the ball from going past him, it didn't look like anything approaching dissent. For what it's worth, the player himself looks absolutely stunned by the decision.

You can judge for yourself in the clip below, but it genuinely does appear to us like Paqueta was cautioned for having one too many skills in his locker.

Now it's possible that the official remembered the time that Neymar nearly caused a mass brawl with a rainbow flick for Barcelona in their 2014/15 Copa del Rey final win against Athletic Bilbao - and wanted to avoid a similar scenario here. We'd love to see the reason for the booking in her match report, though.

A truly mystifying decision!
