Lucas Hernández has played down the knee injury that forced him off in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga victory over Union Berlin on Saturday.
The defender was replaced by Dayot Upamecano in the 69th minute as the Bavarians bounced back from their 5-0 tonking by Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Pokal.
Speaking after the game in the German capital, Bayern’s assistant manager Dino Toppmöller was not overly confident about the France international’s hopes of facing Benfica in the Champions League.
“Lucas took a blow below the knee and indicated that he could not continue playing. We hope that he can be there again on Tuesday,” Toppmöller said.
However, the defender took to Instagram later to declare that it was “just a blow”.
Hernández has endured an injury-disrupted season to date.
The 25-year-old missed the first three games of the league season with a knee problem, and came off at half time against Hoffenheim last weekend due to a calf issue.
