Lucas Digne has been forced to withdraw from France’s squad for their upcoming Uefa Nations League fixtures with an ankle problem.
The Aston Villa left-back was only drafted into the squad on Monday as a replacement for Milan’s Theo Hernandez, who has a muscle injury.
But now Digne has also had to drop out, with Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert now called up as his replacement.
Les Bleus face Austria on Thursday followed by a trip to Copenhagen to face Denmark on Sunday, and they need to get some results if they are to avoid relegation to the second tier of the Nations League.
But coach Didier Deschamps’s preparation for the upcoming matches have been hindered by numerous injuries to his players. Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kanté are all unavailable for selection due to injury, while goalkeeper Hugo Lloris also withdrew on Monday and was replaced by Nantes’ Alban Lafont.
Injured Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot was replaced by Boubacar Kamara last week, only for the Aston Villa man to then drop out with an injury of his own, earning Marseille’s Jordan Veretout a call-up.
The reigning world champions are currently bottom of League A Group 1 with two points from 4 games.
