Lucas Moura hints at Tottenham Hotspur stay beyond this summer despite game time struggles

Lucas Moura has suggested that he could stay with Tottenham Hotspur past this summer despite struggling to earn regular game time in recent months. He came back into the starting lineup against Burnley recently and had dropped a solid performance to make a case for himself.

Moura has seen his minutes reduce considerably following Dejan Kulusevski’s arrival from Juventus back in January. That did raise doubts over the former’s long term future, with him having conveyed previously his desire to return to Sao Paulo one day. Now, the attacker may have hinted at his plans for the future.

Speaking in an open interview (h/t Football.London), the Brazilian has expressed how happy he is with his life at Tottenham. He did say that enjoying more time on the pitch plays a major role in that regard. Finally, he also rallied his teammates to improve themselves to challenge for titles in the next campaign.

“[It’s a] huge pleasure for me to be here. Every year, every training session, every game I come and give my best because they [fans] deserve and the feeling is amazing. I love this club, I love to play for Tottenham. I just want to come on the pitch and give my best and see the fans singing and see them happy. The most important for us is to give our best on the pitch to see them like this. Let’s fight for more next season and fight for a trophy because they [fans] deserve it.”

Moura made his final decision?

The 29-year-old’s rally to his teammates does suggest that he could be staying with Spurs past this season. After all, there is no reason for a player to look forward to the next campaign if he is planning to depart in the first place.

Last week, The Telegraph had stated that the Premier League ace could be subjected to offers from elsewhere over a potential transfer this summer. With Moura also struggling to get back his starting spot from Dejan Kulusevski, there were serious concerns about the Brazilian forward’s future at N17.

However, this latest development does favour us as it is essential to have a reliable set of options to choose from. Moura and Kulusevski provide good depth and quality, and it would also lead to healthy competition among themselves.

The former Paris Saint-Germain man is contracted until 2024, which means that Antonio Conte’s side does hold greater control over his future, according to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola via HITC (h/t Football.London). We could decide to keep hold of him, but at the same time, he could also warrant a decent sum for his services if he is put on the transfer shortlist.

As Moura said, the players must improve themselves to do their best for the next season, considering how they will engage on multiple fronts. Having Moura in our ranks would go a long way to instil a competitive environment with Kulusevski, which would only help us in the long run
