Louis van Gaal overcomes prostate cancer

Good news for Dutch football: Louis van Gaal is now cured of prostate cancer.

The 73-year-old coach announced it on Saturday, July 12, during the Dutch TV show Humberto, as reported by Football5Star:

I am no longer troubled by cancer. I had surgery two years ago. It was a tough period, but today I feel relieved.

The former Netherlands head coach was diagnosed in 2020, but chose to keep his illness private for several years, including during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which he led the Oranje through. Despite undergoing 25 radiotherapy sessions and a major surgery, van Gaal continued to fulfill his duties as manager with exemplary discretion and professionalism, even going to the hospital at night so as not to disrupt his team's focus:

I always tried to give my best for Dutch football, even while battling the illness.

An iconic figure in European football, Louis van Gaal has managed prestigious clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United. He also left a mark on the Dutch national team, notably leading the Netherlands to third place at the 2014 World Cup. Now retired from football, van Gaal can enjoy his retirement... in good health.
