According to L’Équipe Lorient’s Swiss goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo will miss the World Cup after sustaining a knee injury against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend. The injury happened during the first half-hour of the match in the build-up to the Parisians’ opening goal through Neymar. The former Young Boys shot-stopper will have to undergo further medical tests but his participation at the World Cup with Switzerland has been compromised – in a week which is make-or-break for players hoping to represent their nations at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Mvogo has also been a key part of Lorient’s positive start to the season, having appeared in every one of Les Merlus’ games this season, as they currently sit 6th in the Ligue 1 table. The 28-year old arrived in the summer on a contract keeping him at the Breton side until June 2024 from RB Leipzig, after being loaned out the PSV Eindhoven the preceding season.
