According to L’Équipe, FC Lorient may solicit the help of partner club Bournemouth to secure the signing of Olympique Lyonnais’ Romain Faivre (24).
Faivre, who endured a difficult spell at Lyon following his arrival from Stade Brestois, spent a successful loan spell at Lorient in the second half of last season, scoring four goals and registering two assists during his time with Les Merlus. The club are therefore willing to retain the French midfielder, however, would have to shell out a club-record €12m to do so.
In order to facilitate a deal, Lorient are considering numerous strategies, one of which includes soliciting the help of Bournemouth. The two clubs share the same owner in Bill Foley, and the idea would be for the Cherries, who have superior financial means, to buy Faivre before loaning him straight back out to Lorient.
However, whilst this strategy is still being considered, Lorient are now leaning towards using their own funds for the deal. The club notably received substantial fees for Terem Moffi (OGC Nice) and Dango Ouattara (Bournemouth) in January, whilst Enzo Le Fée looks set to join Stade Rennais for a reported €20m.
Lorient could also yet face competition for Favire’s signature, notably from Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen and Rennes. For Les Merlus, Faivre’s signature is a top priority, and members of the club’s hierarchy have also met the player’s representatives.
