Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini spoke to Sky Sport on the eve of the match with Elfsborg in the Europa League.
The Giallorossi skipper discussed the recent whistles and boos he’s been steadily receiving from Roma fans in light of Daniele De Rossi’s dismissal.
“First of all, I would like to thank Daniele for what he has transmitted to us.”
“Obviously, it was difficult because he gave us so much on a human level and on the pitch. He and his staff will achieve all the goals they want to achieve, they are exceptional.”
“No, we didn’t expect it and we didn’t feel the need to change,” he said.
“We obviously weren’t happy with the results, but there was the serenity of those who work well. We then reacted well but you keep going because you wear a shirt that is more important than anything.”
“Juric, in this aspect, was exceptional, he understood the moment of sadness of the group for a change that we didn’t want, this is clear. Things have changed, but we are full behind our coach, and we take everything he wants to give us.”
“I know the responsibility of being the captain after two greats like Francesco and Daniele. I have always taken on this responsibility, a dream, an honor but also a burden.”
“I know that I can be the first suspect when things don’t go well and that’s fine. Beyond the antics that I don’t like to do, when I had to take responsibility I always did. It’s right that a player is criticized if his performances are not up to expectations. I don’t accept seeing my name associated with things that I would never do, as a man and captain.”
“I understand everything, but you know how much I care about this shirt, this club, this city, my fans. I always give my all, this is not just any shirt. I hope to recover the relationship with the fans, I have an unconditional love for Roma.”
