Julen Lopetegui has made an impassioned plea for international managers to ‘”take care” of his Wolves players.

A combined 10 players at Molineux were called up by their respective countries for March’s upcoming fixtures while South Korea enlisted Hwang Hee-chan despite being automatically ruled out by an injury sustained during his side’s defeat at Newcastle United earlier this month.

In efforts to avoid his other players joining the forward in the treatment room, former Spain head coach Lopetegui called on those involved in handling Wolves’ international stars to adopt a cautious approach.

“The most important thing is that the player is happy, ready, and not hurt,” said Lopetegui.

“If they have any little problems they have to know and take care of the players, who are the main actors in this sport. Of course, the players want to play for their country and it’s a good thing.

“But in the same way the national teams have a responsibility to take care of the players, who belong to the clubs. We try to help each other.

“This is what happens in the international break, we will have players that go out and you’re always crossing your fingers that they don’t have an injury.”

Wolves currently  sit 13th in the Premier League table but crucially are still only three points away from the relegation zone. Lopetegui’s side will be aiming to put more daylight between themselves and the bottom three when they travel to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest on 1 April.
