In the Hammers' last match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon, it appears that Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd is already preparing to pave the way for a move to a new club in France.

Medhi Benatia, the sporting advisor for Olympique de Marseille, played a key role in persuading Aguerd to join the club. The 28-year-old defender, eager to depart London following a challenging start to the season for West Ham—who conceded 10 goals in just three matches—has already reached a preliminary agreement with the Marseille-based side.

The final step now lies in concluding negotiations with West Ham, who are seeking to minimize the financial loss on a player they originally signed for nearly €35 million.

Olympique de Marseille's primary advantage in securing the deal is the opportunity to offer Champions League football, placing them ahead of competing interest from clubs such as Juventus, Sunderland, and AC Milan. For Aguerd, this move comes at an ideal moment to revitalize his career and optimally prepare for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

With the summer transfer window closing in just a few hours, all signs suggest an official announcement could be imminent—provided the two clubs can reach a consensus on the remaining financial details.
