Weâre using a time machine to bring you back to a monumental signing in Real Madridâs history.
Some 12 years ago today, midfielder Luka ModriÄ joined Los Blancos from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for roughly ÂŁ30m. And what a ride itâs been!
The Croatia international had zero trophies to his name when he departed Spurs at age 26. His initial spell in Madrid was not too promising either, being named LaLigaâs worst signing that season.
Now, both of those statements couldnât be further from the truth.
ModriÄ has made 537 appearances for the club in 12 years with a stunning 27 trophies to his name. Thatâs the most in club history and he now wears the captainâs armband.
His accolades also include winning the 2018/19 Ballon dâOr, and becoming the player to end the dominant Lionel Messi x Cristiano Ronaldo era.
Itâs safe to say his signing proved to be a great decision. What has been your favourite ModriÄ moment?
