We’re using a time machine to bring you back to a monumental signing in Real Madrid’s history.
Some 12 years ago today, midfielder Luka Modrić joined Los Blancos from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for roughly £30m. And what a ride it’s been!
The Croatia international had zero trophies to his name when he departed Spurs at age 26. His initial spell in Madrid was not too promising either, being named LaLiga’s worst signing that season.
Now, both of those statements couldn’t be further from the truth.
Modrić has made 537 appearances for the club in 12 years with a stunning 27 trophies to his name. That’s the most in club history and he now wears the captain’s armband.
His accolades also include winning the 2018/19 Ballon d’Or, and becoming the player to end the dominant Lionel Messi x Cristiano Ronaldo era.
It’s safe to say his signing proved to be a great decision. What has been your favourite Modrić moment?
