As Stefano Pioli’s farewell at the end of the season more or less has been confirmed, many AC Milan fans are pushing for Antonio Conte to replace him. In his latest editorial, Andrea Longoni has elaborated on that thought.

The defeat against Roma on Thursday evening seemingly confirmed that Pioli’s era at the club has come to an end. Gerry Cardinale will be in Milano for the derby and after the game, as reported by credible sources, he will decide Pioli’s replacement along with the management.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, the journalist Andrea Longoni shared his thoughts on the situation and urged the Rossoneri to make a move for Antonio Conte. The Italian wants to return to Serie A and would be willing to take on the Milan project.

“Now comes the opportunity to really show what they [RedBird] really want to do with Milan. Are we talking about a club that aims to win, or one that makes a living clinching top four? We find ourselves at a crossroads and above all, that concerns the choice of the next manager.

“If we questioned 100 sporting directors, 100 would answer that the right man is named Antonio Conte. Thiago Motta would have been an excellent alternative, but stalling while deciding on Pioli has apparently placed him out of reach.

“Other profiles, especially foreign ones, who have never been to Italy, would be yet another gamble: exactly what Milan doesn’t need,” he stated.

Conte is a demanding coach and this appears to be the main worry of the Rossoneri management. They want a manager who can be very aligned with the directors and the scouting department, which is something that Conte perhaps would lack.
