After leading 1-0 after the 59th minute thanks to an Ünder penalty, les Olympiens were leveled late in the game by a goal from Anjorin.

TWO changes To the XI

In the first UEFA Europa League match of the 2021-2022 campaign, Argentinian coach Jorge Sampaoli made two changes to his starting line-up compared to the club's last outing in Monaco on Saturday. In defence, Alvaro Gonzalez wore the captain's armband and started in place of Leonardo Balerdi at Moscow. Gerson started in place of Pol Lirola.

First Half: Lots of chances, no goals

Les Olympiens quickly took control of the game, and the Russians were clearly happy to sit back and defend against Jorge Sampaoli's men. The Lokomotiv players were organised in front of their penalty area and defended as a block, playing for the counter. Guendouzi created the most chances in the first half: a long-range shot and another from inside the box after a one-two combination with Harit. But the Lokomotiv goalkeeper deflected the ball out for a corner each time. Saliba headed a chance goalward, as did Gerson, but it was not to be. Harit saw his shot blocked by Guilherme in injury time. For the Russians, Smolov hit Lopez's post. The Olympien 'keeper also got down well to block a low shot.

Ünder's penalty

Within seconds of De la Fuente coming on for Harit, Ünder picked up the pace against the Russian defence and raced into the box before being tripped by Tiknizyan, who was shown a second yellow card and sent off. The Turkish international took justice into his own hands, converting the penalty with a powerful strike. Ünder thus scored his fourth goal in all competitions since the beginning of the season, three in Ligue 1 and one in the Europa League.

Anjorin at the death

Jorge Sampaoli took advantage of the end of the match to bring on fresh players like Gueye, Henrique and Lirola. As OM continued to dominate the game, the Russians, who had hardly had any chances, managed to equalise in the 89th minute with a long-range shot from Anjorin, who came on earlier. Marseille's final attempts were unsuccessful and they took a point from Russia.

OM sits in 2nd place

In the other Europa League Group E match, Galatasaray won at home against Lazio with a score of 1-0. With the draw, OM is in second place after one day of the group stage. In a fortnight' time, Jorge Sampaoli's men will host Galatasaray.
