As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Madagascar international Loïc Lapoussin was dropped for the sides second match of the international break due to inappropriate behaviour. While the reasoning behind this has not been made clear, reports have circulated that following the sides 3-0 defeat to the Central African Republic, the Union St Gilloise player went for a night out. The national coach of the African side, Nicolas Dupuis, posted on Facebook that the player was banned from selection for the away fixture.

In the end it made little difference, as Madagascar once again lost the the CAR thanks to another two goals from Louis Mafouta. CAR are now just one point behind Ghana and have a chance to qualify for the tournament for the first time in their history. If the side can beat Angola in June they will guarantee their place at the finals in January 2024. Angola kept their hopes alive and sit two points behind the CAR thanks to a 1-1 draw with Ghana.
