Sydney Lohmann has chosen to wear the number 22 shirt during her time at Manchester City.

The midfielder becomes the Blues’ third summer signing, joining on a four-year contract from Bayern Munich.

She becomes the fifth player to wear the shirt in Manchester City’s professional history, taking over from its most recent owner, goalkeeper Sandy MacIver.

MacIver featured 11 times for the Club, enjoying two-and-a-half seasons with City before leaving in January to join Washington Spirit.

Our first number 22 was New Zealand forward Emma Kete, who made five appearances as part of our first professional side in 2014.

The shirt remained vacant until Claire Emslie joined the Club in 2017 from Bristol City.

During her two full seasons at City, the Scotland international grabbed 16 goals in 62 appearances, helping the Blues to a domestic cup double in 2018/19.

Sam Mewis then wore number 22 during her single seasons with the Blues in 2020/21.

A hugely popular figure at City, the USA international helped us retain the FA Cup, scoring in a Wembley win over Everton, before going on to grab 16 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Mewis was voted into the PFA WSL Team of the Year for 2020/21, before moving back to the USA to rejoin North Carolina Courage.

And after MacIver’s stint at the Club came to an end in January 2025, Lohmann will become the fifth owner of the number 22 shirt at City.
