Ruben Loftus-Cheek believes that AC Milan fell victims to a bad start against Sassuolo this afternoon, but ultimately did well to battle back and earn a draw.

It was an awful start for Milan who were all at sea at the back. Andrea Pinamonti opened the scoring and Armand Lauriente doubled the advantage for the home side, but Rafael Leao’s solo run halved the deficit going into the break.

Lauriente restored the two-goal lead early in the second half to give Milan another big hill to climb, uet goals from Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor secured a point and there were even chances to go on and win it.

The 3-3 draw means that the gap to Juventus in third place remains six points, though Inter can clinch the Scudetto next week with a win in the derby.

Loftus-Cheek spoke to Milan TV to comment on the match in Reggio Emilia and his statements were transcribed by MilanNews.

How do you judge the game today?

“We didn’t start in a good way. We could have avoided the goals. For our standards it was very sloppy but credit to us, the way we came back away from home… we’ve done it a few times now, going down and then coming back to win the game or like today draw the game.

“Let’s look at the positives. We’ve come back from a two-goal deficit and got the draw. But let’s not be too down about the last couple of results. We’ve got a big game coming up and we need to be positive and ready for that.”

The gap to Juventus remains six points, is this one of the positives?

“Exactly. Yes we’re second in the league and have a chance to go through in the Europa League so as I said, let’s not get too down about the last couple of results, we’re in a good place and I think we are all very confident about Thursday. We’ll recover, eat well, sleep well and be ready to give everything on Thursday.”

Is this desire shown at the end something to take to Rome?

“Throughout the season when we’ve been down [behind] we’ve always come back and shown fight to win the game. Going to Rome 1-0 down is not so new to us, we’ve had it before and come back so why not be positive going there? And we are. We’re all looking forward to it and we’re very confident and positive about the game.”
