Colin Kazim-Richards joins Mexican club Lobos BUAP on loan from Corinthians.
The English-born forward who came through to senior football at Bury in 2004, first left Europe to sign with Brazilian club Coritiba in 2016. After a year he joined Brazilian Série A club Corinthians, but departs on loan after making 18 appearances.
A bit of a journeyman, the Puebla-based team will be the 14th of the 31-year old striker’s career after spells at Turkish clubs Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray S.K., and Bursaspor, and English clubs Brighton & Hove Albion, Sheffield United, and Blackburn Rovers, among others.
Last season, BUAP finished last in the Liga MX relegation table but was able to stay in the first division by purchasing the place of second-division winner Cafetaleros de Tapachula. The team’s poor record over the 2017 Apertura and 2018 Clausura means that Lobos are under immediate pressure to avoid relegation again.
To that end, the club’s new manager Francisco Palencia has signed Kazim-Richards.
The departure of forward Julián Quiñones following the conclusion of his one-year loan from Liga MX powerhouse Tigres UANL stresses the need for goals. The young Colombian attacker scored 17 of the team’s 44 goals last campaign but Palencia believes the former Turkey international can help replicate that production.
