Barcelona loanee Julian Araujo has been substituted during the La Liga encounter between UD Las Palmas and Celta Vigo today at Gran Canaria with a possible injury.

Araujo left Barça to join Las Palmas on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window in search of game-time.

Having joined the Blaugrana in January earlier this year, the 22-year-old spent the second half of the last season without any competitive football as the transfer had not been ratified by FIFA due to delays in paperwork.

While everything was resolved in the summer, he was never going to get many minutes at Barcelona and as such it was decided that Araujo would be joining Las Palmas on loan.

Having moved to the newly-promoted La Liga club, the Mexican right-back has been getting regular minutes up until this point.

Indeed, tonight’s game against Celta Vigo was Araujo’s sixth start for Las Palmas in their eighth game of the season.

However, it ended on a disappointing note for the Barcelona loanee as he had to be taken off at the half-hour mark after he appeared to have picked up an injury.

The Mexican international was replaced by Alvaro Lemos and a clearer update on his condition should emerge in the coming days.

Las Palmas and Barcelona will both be hoping that it is nothing serious as it is crucial for Araujo to keep playing regularly to gain experience in European football.
