After half an hour of little action, the visitors took the lead when Diogo Jota picked out Trent Alexander-Arnold with a perfect pass and he in turn teed up Sadio Mané to end his nine-game goal drought.

Patrick Bamford cracked the crossbar in the closing stages for Leeds and Alisson was twice forced into outstanding saves but after Liverpool failed to heed the warning signs, Diego Llorente rescued a late point with an 87th minute header from a corner.

The result leaves Liverpool two points off the top four but given the events of the last day, whether it will be of any relevance to them in securing a finish in that position remains to be seen.

With the draw, Leeds move level on points with fellow ESL hopefuls Arsenal in 10th.
