Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento has revealed the the congested schedule across all competitions have made it difficult to maintain results in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s side have lost their last two games in all competitions, as they try to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, whilst maintaining a push for top four in the Premier League.

Newcastle also qualified for the quarter-finals of the League Cup, after knocking out Manchester City and Manchester United in the last two previous rounds.

Livramento reiterated that this is where he and his teammates want to be, but with a long injury list, the turnover of games is becoming a challenge.

“With the schedule and the quality of the opposition that we are playing against, it is going to be tough when you are playing Champions League and going far in the cup competitions”, said the Newcastle man.

“Playing against some of the best teams in those games, you are putting everything into it. It is hard to then go and play another Premier League game within 2-3 days.

“This is what happens when you finish high in the table and you get put into all these competitions. This is a learning curve for the squad because this is where we all want to be.”

Newcastle were drawn into the group of death in the Champions League, with PSG, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan. Despite a famous victory against PSG, Newcastle are bottom of their group with two games remaining.

Eddie Howe’s squad have to travel to Paris, and host AC Milan at St. James’ Park in their two remaining games. Meanwhile in the Premier League, three of their next four games are against Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham.

Newcastle fans craved the heady heights of the Champions League when they were taken over in October 2021, and Livramento is relishing the challenge ahead, as they seek qualification to the knockouts.

“We want to be playing against the best teams, playing at the highest level and we will get through it”, said the England U21 star.

“We would definitely like to be in a better position in our Champions League group but we still feel like is is in our hands go out there and win two games.

“We could be closer to the top four, but we want to be the team that is hunting everyone else rather than the team that is being hunted.”
