Rangers weren’t the only objections to the recently-agreed SPFL Sky deal – David Martindale has explained why his Livi side also held back from outright supporting it, illustrating that the powers that be, rather than getting a deal that suited everybody, instead opted to renege on the clauses of the existing one and just changed the terms.

Livi’s reservations were that the governing body, rather than working on improving the deal so that everyone was happy with it, instead just changed the framework to suit themselves and mean that the remaining 10 clubs’ votes would be appropriate for the existing and not particularly great deal.

See, Ibrox Noise were never backing up the SPFL and their Sky deal – we were critical of Rangers’ managing director’s reasons for rejecting it. It was, frankly, nonsense, and if like Martindale he’d been a lot more honest, it would have come across better.

Martindale explains:

“You won’t get everybody agreeing on everything, which is fair enough, but we are big enough to sit round a table and get our heads together and work out a solution. We believed, if you don’t get the vote to go your way, you don’t just change the resolution to suit that. That’s where we were coming from.”

Makes perfect sense.

But Stewart Robertson babbled on about Sweden as if it was an even remotely valid comparison.

The day we’re noting that Livi seem to be run better and speak better than our club is a sad day indeed.
