Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract next season. If an extension isn’t reached this summer, the 26-year-old could be on the move.
According to a report from SPORT last October, several top clubs—including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain—are keeping a close eye on his situation.
Although De Jong has publicly stated his desire to stay with Barcelona, PSG’s track record of signing players from the Catalan side makes them a potential destination.
Barcelona, meanwhile, seems open to letting him go. Mundo Deportivo recently reported that the club has decided against prioritizing a contract renewal, citing financial constraints and an inability to meet his salary demands.
Additionally, journalist Miguel Rico noted that concerns over De Jong’s performances have further influenced the club’s stance, hinting at a possible departure from Camp Nou.

On Wednesday, CaughtOffside reported that Liverpool have already begun internal discussions about their top transfer targets for the summer, with De Jong among them. However, his wages could be a potential hurdle.
Barcelona are willing to let him go for around €35 million, but his high salary at the Nou Camp has previously deterred Liverpool and other clubs from making a move.
Last month, De Jong stated that he’s not necessarily bound to the Nou Camp for the long term amid the rumors.
“People think I want to stay at Barcelona forever because life outside of football is so good here, and that’s good, but what happens on the pitch is always more important,” De Jong said. “If I felt like I couldn’t contribute enough, or if the team wasn’t competitive, I would leave.”
