Liverpool currently sit in 10th position in the Premier League, looking like a shell of the team that nearly competed the Quadrepule last season.

Admittedly, Jurgen Klopp's men have suffered badly with injuries this season, but it's clear that something isn't quite right even with the players that are fit.

Some fans have claimed that Liverpool lack the same intensity that made them one of the best sides in the world in recent years, and it's hard to argue otherwise.

What is wrong with Liverpool this season?

During their prime under Klopp, Liverpool were known and beloved for playing an intense, aggressive style of football, looking to press their opponents and win the ball back as quickly as possible.

However, unfortunately for the club and its supporters, Liverpool seem to have lost a lot of their identity over the las couple of months, notably with their high-octane press.

Don't believe us? Well, a compilation in the embedded tweet below from Liverpool's title-winning season in 2019-20 shows just how intense of a press Liverpool used to adopt.

In their prime, Liverpool pressed as a unit, with their attack and midfield working together to smother their opponents and win the ball back.

Defenders like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and even Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk, can be seen in the compilation winning the ball high up the pitch and creating chances.

That's a stark contrast to what's happening at Liverpool now, with as you can see below, Wolves passing the ball around Liverpool for over two minutes during their 3-0 win on Saturday.

The Liverpool press from just two years ago looks so different from the one we are seeing today from Klopp's side, it's really hard to say that something isn't badly wrong with the club right now.

Upon reminding themselves of just how good Liverpool's press was, fans claimed that players aren't even trying anymore, with some pointing to the sale of Gini Wijnadlum as a key turning point too.

With Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and van Dijk all returning to first-team training this week, Liverpool will be hoping to turn around their season, but they need to start doing it pretty quickly.
