With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Liverpool’s all-time XI.
Today we’re choosing the left-back.
Here are the nominees …
It could have been so, so good for Fábio Aurélio and Liverpool.
You could see that the Brazilian left-back, who joined from Valencia on a free-transfer in 2006, had all the skills and technique to make a world-class footballer. Sadly, a number of persistent injuries restricted Aurélio to under 90 appearances in six seasons at Anfield.
However, we feel he should make the list for this goal alone….
Alan Kennedy was responsible for two of the most important goals in Liverpool’s history.
His goal in the 1981 European Cup final was the winner against Real Madrid before he netted the decisive penalty in the shootout win over Roma in the 1984 final.
Not bad for a player signed for just £330,000 from Newcastle United in 1978, which was a British transfer record for a full-back at the time.
Andy Robertson has only been at Liverpool since 2017 but it’s safe to say he will be remembered as a club legend.
The Glaswegian arrived for just £8m from Hull City in a move which will go down as one of the greatest bargains in the club’s history.
“I honestly don’t know if there is a better left-back in Europe.”
24 assists in under 100 appearances. One Champions League. One Club World Cup. One UEFA Super Cup, and eventually, a Premier League title. It’s been one hell of a start to his Liverpool career.
Here’s how the team is looking so far …
GK: Ray Clemence RB: Phil Neal LB: Andy Robertson
Check back tomorrow and Monday when we will be choosing Liverpool’s greatest ever … centre-backs.
