Liverpool travel to face Brighton in the Carabao Cup’s fourth round this evening, the first of two meetings with the Seagulls in a week.
The holders head to the AMEX Stadium looking to continue their defence of the competition, having swatted aside West Ham 5-1 in the previous round.
Arne Slot has had a superb start as Liverpool manager but faces a tough test on the south coast.
Brighton are unbeaten at home this season and have lost just once in all competitions under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler. The Seagulls, however, have been leaky defensively of late. Brighton have conceded two goals in five of their last six games, including their 3-2 win over Wolves in round three.
Arne Slot is expected to rotate his team for the clash at Brighton and has confirmed Wataru Endo is in line to start. The Japan international has struggled for minutes this season due to the form of Ryan Gravenberch, but Slot praised the application of the midfielder when called upon.
“I really liked him against West Ham and what I admire about him is his personality. Two times he had to come in five minutes before the end,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference when discussing Endo.
“In my managerial career I’ve sometimes seen players that if they come in five minutes before the end they come in with [their head down] and play like that, but every time when we need him he shows up for the team, for his teammates and for himself.
“I think also for that reason he deserves to play tomorrow.”
Conor Bradley is set to return for the Reds, while there could be a recall for Jarell Quansah. Federico Chiesa, Alisson Becker, Harvey Elliott and Diogo Jota remain sidelined.
Liverpool predicted XI: Kelleher; Bradley Gomez, Quansah, Tsimikas; Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Nunez
