"Liverpool would have been better" - Mario Gotze on not joining the Reds
Mario Gotze has opened up on not signing for Liverpool back in 2016.
But, the aforementioned transfer never came to fruition. Gotze ended up joining Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of £19.80 million back in July 2016.
The 30-year-old has recently spoken about not joining Liverpool. Going by Gotze's comments, he regrets not taking the opportunity to link up with Klopp at Anfield.
"Dortmund had previously played a top season under Thomas Tuchel. BVB (Dortmund) was on the up. Jurgen was still building something. In retrospect, you have to say Liverpool would have been better.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
To be honest, it worked out well that Liverpool never ended up signing Gotze. The reality is, the attacking midfielder suffered a number of injuries from 2016 onwards. Gotze now represents Eintracht Frankfurt.
The winger went on to score 120 goals and register 48 assists in 269 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
So, if it was between Gotze or Mane (we are unsure if this is the case), the Reds ended up signing the right player.
