Liverpool’s trip to Spurs on Sunday saw the launch of a new initiative for supporters courtesy of the club’s official travel partner Expedia.
A coach provided by Expedia is providing free transport to supporters for all of Liverpool’s away matches outside Merseyside in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season.
On Sunday, the transport was booked out as fans made their way to London with the ‘Nothing Beats Being There’ message displayed proudly on the vehicle wrapped in full club colours and crest.
A crowd of more than 2,000 fans included a large contingent of Reds and manager Matt Beard said: “Thank you to our fantastic travelling support and to Expedia UK for helping them get there!”
Jo Goodall, chair of Liverpool FC Women Supporters’ Club, said: “It’s fantastic that the club have put on the coaches this season, and huge thanks to Expedia. We’ve got quite a good group now who go to the away games and we’re trying to encourage more fans who don’t drive to come along.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity for fans to support the team. It can make a huge difference for them the fact we’ve got a lot of Reds singing in the crowd and making noise win, lose or draw.”
“The away match experience begins the moment you start travelling, and our transport mean that Expedia will be there every step of the way with Liverpool FC fans,” commented Michele Rousseau, Senior Vice President of Global Brands at Expedia Group.
She added: “We want to do all we can to enrich the experience that fans have while travelling to support the women’s team this season.”
Kerry Howard from Crosby, who travelled with members of her family, said: “We had a full coach today, the atmosphere was brilliant. The back of it says ‘we’re on a mission to get fans to away games’ which says it all really.
“We’re in a tougher league this year, we know we’re not going to win all the games but on to the next one.”
Liverpool’s next away game of the WSL campaign sees them visit Manchester City on Sunday October 30 (2pm kick-off). To book travel, you must have a valid match ticket and club social media will announce when the free transport can be booked through www.liverpoolfc.com/lfcwfreetravel.
