It’s a bumper Saturday in the Premier League with eight games that all have something riding on them.

Easy does it for Liverpool

Scorers: Darwin 10′, Gakpo 17′

Liverpool claimed their second win in succession as they beat 10-man Newcastle 2-0 at St James’ Park.

The Reds travelled to Newcastle looking to continue the momentum from their Merseyside derby win on Monday.

Eddie Howe’s side meanwhile were hoping for their first win in three games following three successive draws.

It was Newcastle who were impressing early on though as Alexander Isak was played through and forced a smart save from Alisson.

But it was the Reds who took the lead after only 10 minutes as Darwin Nunez was played in by Trent Alexander-Arnold and fired in from close range.

And it wasn’t long before they doubled their lead as Cody Gakpo made a late run into the area and scored from close range.

Newcastle were then sent down to 10 men as Nick Pope came out to try and stop Mo Salah from running on to a ball, but handled it outside the area and was given his marching orders.

Dan Burn almost managed to pull one back for the Magpies on the stroke of half time but his header crashed back off the crossbar.

Into the second half and it was the 11 men of Liverpool who were enjoying most of the ball and seemed to have this game under control.

Jürgen Klopp’s side really should have added their third on 75 minutes as they put together and wonderful team move but Harvey Elliott’s final pass failed to find Roberto Firmino.

The Magpies had their own chance to pull one back as Anthony Gordon waltzed through to the edge of the area, but the former Everton man passed to Callum Wilson who shot straight at Alisson.

Man City drop points at Forest

Scorers: Wood 84′; Bernardo Silva 41′

Chris Wood equalised late on as Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Manchester City.

With Arsenal back to winning ways, Manchester City travelled to the City ground knowing that they needed a win to leapfrog the north London side.

Pep Guardiola’s side were all over Forest in the opening minutes of the game with Phil Foden looking especially dangerous down the right flank.

But it was Rodri who should have scored on the half hour mark as his header went just wide after a stunning cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

Bernardo Silva had been moved to left back again for this game but still managed to get himself on the scoresheet with four minutes left of the first half.

The Portugal international found space on the edge of the area and fired in brilliantly past Keylor Navas.

Into the second half and City really should have doubled their lead after only a few minutes but Foden tried to square to Erling Haaland with the pass wildly under hit.

Haaland had a real gilt-edged chance on 68 minutes as the Norway international first hit Navas with a close range finish and then fired the rebound over the bar.

With five minutes to go however, Forest equalised as Chris Wood tapped in a Morgan Gibbs-White cross.

Saints heap more pressure on Potter

Scorers: Ward-Prowse 45+1′

Chelsea dropped yet more points as bottom side Southampton won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The pressure was on for Graham Potter with the English tactician aiming to get only his third win as Chelsea boss.

But it was the Saints who flew out of the blocks early on, peppering the Blues goal with three shots inside the opening five minutes.

Chelsea slowly started to get themselves into the game and forced a save from Gavin Bazunu thanks to Noni Madueke’s effort from the left-hand side.

Right on the stroke of half time however, the away side took the lead thanks to James Ward-Prowse’s wonderful free kick.

Into the second half and Raheem Sterling came on and changed the game with his pace and direct running.

The England international went close with 20 minutes to go as his effort was cleared off the line by Perraud.

But it wasn’t enough as the away side claimed a much-needed win.

Captain Coleman secures win

Scorers: Coleman 64′

Seamus Coleman scored the only goal of the game as Everton beat Leeds in a crunch match at the bottom of the table.

This was arguably the most intriguing game of the day with manager-less Leeds travelling Merseyside to take on Sean Dyche’s Everton.

Amadou Onana was the man who almost scored on the half hour mark as his effort from the edge of the area just went over the bar.

After the break it was Everton again who went close to taking the lead as Dwight McNeil’s effort went agonisingly wide of the far post.

Dyche’s side eventually did get their goal just after the hour mark as Seamus Coleman popped up with a captain’s finish from a ridiculous angle.

Smash and grab for Fulham

Scorers: Solomon 88′

Mano Solomon scored for the second game in a row as Fulham secured a 1-0 win over Brighton.

This was a battle of the upwardly mobile on the south coast with the winner putting pressure on Tottenham in sixth.

It was all Brighton in the opening exchanges with Robert Di Zerbi’s side enjoying 75 per cent of possession and having three shots on goal.

The game was still goalless at the break but Brighton really should have taken the lead on 50 minutes only for Lewis Dunk’s header to go inches wide of the post.

But right at the death youngster Manor Solomon secured only his second senior goal to and the Cottagers a win.

Unbeaten run intact for Brentford

Scorers: Janelt 90+6′; Eze 69′

Brentford’s long unbeaten remained intact as Vitaly Janelt scored in the 96th minute to equalise against Crystal Palace.

Brentford came into this clash with Crystal Palace on an extraordinary run of 13 games without defeat in the Premier League.

But it was a muted first half with both sides struggling in front of goal.

Ivan Toney, the Bees main goal threat, had just one effort on goal but his shot squirmed wide of Vicente Guaita’s goal.

After the break it was Palace who broke the deadlock with 20 minutes to go as Eberechi Eze showed his class with a neat finish.

But it was Vitaly Janelt who scored with the last kick of the game to earn a point for the west London outfit.

Cherries escape Wolves’ clutches

Scorers: Tavernier 49′

Bournemouth secured a vital win at the bottom of the table as they beat Wolves 1-0 at Molineux.

Under Julen Lopeteugi Wolves had moved themselves away from the relegation zone and hosted a Bournemouth outfit who hadn’t won since November.

It was Wolves who went closest to scoring in the opening quarter as Pablo Sarabia’s effort was saved well after good work from Matheus Cunha.

Into the second half and almost immediately the away side took the lead as Marcus Tavernier netted to hand the Cherries the advantage.

Arsenal back on track with injury time winners

Scorers: Watkins 6′, Coutinho 32′; Saka 16′, Zinchenko 61′, Jorginho 90+3′, Martinelli 90+7′

Jorginho’s injury time goal and another from Gabriel Martinelli saw Arsenal return to winning ways as they beat Aston Villa 4-2.

Mikel Arteta’s side were looking to reignite their title charge here after after drawing with Brentford last weekend and then losing to Manchester City.

But they couldn’t have got off to a worse start as Ollie Watkins was played in by Matty Cash and fired in a stunning effort from the left-hand side of the penalty area to hand Villa the lead.

Villa weren’t ahead for long though as Bukayo Saka’s first time effort rifled into the roof of the net from 18 yards out.

It was a brilliant start to the game and it took yet another turn on the half hour mark as Philippe Coutinho found space inside the area and saw his effort deflect past Aaron Ramsdale and into the back of the net.

Into the second half and it was the Gunners who flew out of the blocks looking for an equaliser and went close as Eddie Nketiah headed against the crossbar.

They eventually did get their goal right on the hour mark as Oleksandr Zinchenko rifled in from the edge of the area.

The north London side then had a real gilt-edged chance to take the lead as Martin Ødegaard was all alone 12 yards out, and inexplicably put an effort wide.

Villa were really hanging on now but against the run of play almost scored their own winner as Leon Bailey’s effort beat Ramsdale but crashed off the bar.

But with three minutes of injury time on the clock, Arsenal got their winner as Jorginho hit a speculative effort off the crossbar, which rebounded back off Emi Martinez and into the net.

And with Martinez up for a corner to try and make amends, the Gunners broke and scored a second injury time goal through Martinelli.
