This year, Paris Saint-Germain opted to move on from Xavi Simons, who they loaned to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. PSG sold the Dutchman to the German side, but despite his departure, the Parisians still had a vested interest in where he would go long-term.

PSG included a sell-on clause as part of the agreement, allowing them to earn additional money beyond the initial fee. According to a previous report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United could have an advantage over Manchester City in the race to sign Simons next summer.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed RB Leipzig paid €80 million in total, including add-ons, with €55 million paid up front. Simons was under contract until June 2027, but with multiple clubs tracking him, there was no guarantee he would stay that long.

Empire of the Kop reports that Liverpool are preparing to submit an opening bid of about €60 million ($67.8 million) for the Netherlands international playmaker, as Arne Slot looks to strengthen the attack ahead of next season.

However, despite Slot’s interest in making the player his first signing of the summer, the offer is expected to fall short — RB Leipzig are reportedly holding out for closer to €80 million ($90.4 million).

Simons’ deal at the Red Bull Arena expires in the summer of 2027. As a result, the German side can hold out until an offer suitable for their emerging star attacker comes their way.
