Caught Offside’s regular big exclusives continue, and this time their Liverpool man Neil Jones has dropped some interesting news about Levi Colwill.

The centre back has been regularly linked with Chelsea over the last year, and recently whispers picked up in intensity.

Jones confirms there is long term interest from the Reds in the Cobham produced left-sided centre back:

“Of all the areas Liverpool could strengthen this summer, I believe centre-back is the most obviously in need,” Jones said.

“Their interest in Levi Colwill is long-standing, and there were suggestions of a bid last summer before he signed his new contract at Chelsea. I don’t expect the Londoners to sell Colwill this time around, but if they did then I would expect Liverpool to be in the mix.”

It’s a reminder that, even if his short term is secure, long term big clubs will always be interested. There have even been whispers about PSG in the past. As his profile rises – and we expect a lot of England caps to come – he will get harder to keep if he wants to go.

A vital future to secure

Getting Levi to sign a new contract last summer was absolutely massive. We were never convinced by the rumours he wanted to leave and join Brighton permanently, but they did create some tension and anxiety that he was not going to be willing to sit around and wait his turn.

Thankfully he was persuaded to sign, and then immediately became a regular for Mauricio Pochettino, presumably allaying many of his fears. Injury is the only thing which has prevented him from being effectively an ever-present this season.

But the temptation of Liverpool will always be there, especially if we keep lingering in mid-table and they keep winning trophies. Now we’ve got Levi locked in for a few years, we need to build a team that will help him reach his vast potential.
