Luis Suarez is one of the most talented players to ever call the Premier League home.

The streets will never forget the Liverpool icon producing one of the greatest individual seasons in football history when he amassed 31 goals and 12 assists across 33 league games in 2013/14.

Marry that to the fact that so many of said goals were amongst the finest that the division has ever seen and Suarez during his Liverpool pomp truly was worth the admission fee unto himself.

Suarez’s underrated 2012/13 season

However, the groundwork for that most memorable of campaigns had already been laid the year before as Suarez started to show that he was truly world-class over the course of the 2012/13 season.

Don’t get it twisted, Suarez still looked a class above the rest during his first 18 months at Anfield, but it wasn’t until his second full season that he really started to produce the numbers to back that up.

Four goals in 13 games across 2010/11 cranked up to 17 goals from 39 games in 2011/12, before the floodgates truly started to open in 2012/13 with 30 strikes in the space of just 44 matches.

And while his final season at Anfield might be his most famous and for good reason too, you may be surprised to learn that the year before only actually saw him score one goal fewer.

His numbers might have been boosted by Europa League fixtures in 2012/13, sure, but there were also plenty of stunning strikes to supplement what was undoubtedly another season for the ages.

And few strikes within that most underrated of years for Suarez came better than his ‘superglue’ strike against Newcastle United, which, today, celebrates its 10-year anniversary.

Under the Anfield floodlights on November 4, 2012, Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with a strong Toon side that were fresh from finishing fifth the previous year under Alan Pardew.

On paper, it’s a pretty nondescript result with Yohan Cabaye’s opening strike ensuring that the Reds’ poor start to the season continued with just two wins from their first 10 Premier League games.

Never forget Suarez’s ‘superglue’ goal

However, the match will always have a special place in the hearts of Liverpool fans for the astonishing manner in which Suarez drew the scores level in the 67th minute.

In what might well be the most underrated goal in Premier League history, Suarez showed levels of control that we’ve only really ever seen from Dennis Bergkamp on these shores to kill a long pass from Jose Enrique dead.

It really was as though Suarez was covered in superglue the way that the ball was stuck to him, bringing the pass under his spell despite having Fabricio Coloccini breathing down his neck.

Just saying but, had Bergkamp scored that goal, it would get a lot more hype than it does.

And by the way, your humble GIVEMESPORT writer just happens to be an Arsenal fan, so I’m not saying that lightly and would happily opine that Suarez’s worldie is the Premier League’s most underrated goal of all time.

Just because it’s not a 40-yard screamer, mazy solo run or bicycle kick, it doesn’t mean that Suarez’s mesmerising strike shouldn’t be ranked amongst the very finest of the 21st century.

Besides, anyone with any knowledge of playing football will be well aware of just how staggering it was for Suarez to show such insane levels of close control with what was essentially his shoulder.

And for that to then flow into the type of one-on-one composure that many strikers can’t show when they have all the time in the world… astonishing.
