Alexis Mac Allister could become a Liverpool player this week, with the Reds keen to get a deal for the World Cup winner over the line as soon as possible.

According to the Times, Liverpool are hopeful of confirming the move before this week, with Mac Allister set to become the club’s first signing of the summer.

The Argentinian midfielder joined Brighton in 2019 and he has become a guaranteed summer across the last two seasons, missing just 14 of the Seagull’s last 97 Premier League games.

Mac Allister’s impressive Brighton form has seen him become a regular for Argentina and he impressed at the World Cup last year, starting each of Argentina’s six games after he watched a defeat to Saudi Arabia from the bench in the Albiceleste’s opener.

The Times add that Mac Allister is keen to work with Jürgen Klopp and Brighton are unable to stand in the way of a deal, with Liverpool ready to meet the sum outlined in a release clause included in the 24-year-old’s contract on the south coast.

Midfield has been a problem position for Liverpool in recent seasons in terms of depth and an early move for Mac Allister is not expected to be the only addition in the centre of the park this summer.
