Jurgen Klopp fielded a strong side as the holders looked to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Brentford on Monday.

But despite Wolves resting many of their stars, Liverpool made hard work of the tie.

Alisson’s huge blunder in the 26th minute certainly did help things.

Under little pressure, the Brazilian played the ball straight to Goncalo Guedes who gleefully tapped the ball into the empty net.

Before half time, though, the Reds were level.

Darwin Nunez finished brilliantly with a left-footed volley from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pass to life everyone inside Anfield.

And when Mohamed Salah put Liverpool 2-1 ahead minutes into the second half, it looked as Klopp’s side would be marching into the fourth round.

Debutant Cody Gakpo attempted to find Salah, who was initially in an offside position. However, Toti’s header gifted the ball to the Egyptian and, because it was a genuine attempt to play the ball, he was no longer offside.

It seemed harsh but Liverpool didn’t care.

But Wolves forced their way back into the tie when Hwang Hee-chan got the ball over the line and past Alisson from a low cross.

Then came the controversy when Toti thought he’d won the tie for Wolves but the assistant referee had flagged for an offside in the build-up.

What fans may have missed during the action-packed 90 minute is a clash between Andy Robertson and Adama Traore.

Robertson had a very busy evening trying to keep up with the pace of Traore.

Late on in the match, Traore went to ground under the challenge of Ibrahima Konate just in front of Robertson.

What followed was very unsavoury as Robertson’s boot caught Traore in the face as he looked to jump over him.

Was it on purpose? Was it an accident?

We like to think a professional footballer wouldn’t purposely stamp on another professional footballer’s face.

However, many fans believe Robertson did it on purpose. Check out the reaction:

Honestly? We’re not sure. But we’ll give the Liverpool left-back the benefit of the doubt on this one. He immediately goes to apologise to Traore which suggests it was, indeed, an accident.
