Liverpool headed to the south coast on Tuesday evening for a crucial Premier League clash against Southampton.

Having clinched the FA Cup on penalties at Wembley only three days prior. Jurgen Klopp rang the changes with only Alisson and Ibrahima Konate surviving the hefty rotation.

The likes of Harvey Elliot and Takumi Minamino were presented the opportunity to prove themselves in the do-or-die clash.

The equation for Liverpool was simple. Win, and the title race goes down to the last day, lose and Manchester City would be crowned champions.

Despite a positive start from Liverpool, it was Southampton who would take the lead through a deflected curling effort from Nathan Redmond.

Alisson was left with no chance as Redmond found the far corner with a fantastic strike.

Liverpool would soon be level though as Takumi Minamino rifled home to restore parity.

It was a fantastic strike with potentially massive title ramification but it seemed the gravity of it all was lost on Martin Tyler.

The legendary commentator seemed completely unimpressed with proceedings unfolding in fron of him as he lowered his voice to a low, funeral-esque tone.

You can hardly blame fans for criticising him.

Liverpool poured forward in the second half as they sought the crucial goal to keep the title race alive.

A number of chances came and went with Kostas Tsimikas proving to be a bit of a menace down the flank.

It was starting to feel like it could be one of those frustrating nights before fan-favourite Joel Matip stepped up to the plate.

It was a bit of a bizarre goal as it looped off his head and hung in the air for what felt like an age before dropping into the net.
