Liverpool vs Newcastle United team news

Liverpool will almost be at full strength for this midweek clash as they are missing just two players.

While Joe Gomez was expected to return this month, it was announced by Arne Slot last week that the centre-back had surgery on a hamstring issue and will not be back until some time in May.

Slot also revealed that he would be “completely surprised” if Conor Bradley is available to play against Newcastle after he was forced off against Aston Villa last week.

Meanwhile, the visitors are also expected to enjoy a shallow absentee list, with only three Newcastle players set to miss their trip to Merseyside.

Sven Botman missed the Magpies’ 4-3 thriller against Nottingham Forest on the weekend, but Eddie Howe is hopeful that Dutchman will be back soon.

Joelinton has missed his side’s last four games with a knee issue and is targetting a return for the Carabao Cup final next month.

Capping off Newcastle’s list of sidelined players is Jamal Lascelles. The defender has been out since last March following an ACL injury that required surgery, and it is unclear whether he will feature this season.

Salah’s bid to match Henry

Only one player in Premier League history has both scored and assisted over 20 goals in a single season. Thierry Henry notched the feat in 2003-04 when he netted 24 times and gave 20 assists for Arsenal.

Mo Salah currently leads the division in both categories, with 25 goals and 16 assists in 27 games. And he has 11 more outings to provide four assists and join Henry’s prestigious one-man club.

After his involvement in both goals in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday, Salah became the first player ever to register 25+ goals and 15+ assists in a Premier League season.

In Liverpool’s reverse fixture against Newcastle at St. James’ Park in December, which ended 3-3, the winger scored twice and assisted once.

The Egyptian has both scored and assisted in 11 Premier League matches this season so far — the most by any player in a single campaign in Europe’s top five leagues since Lionel Messi did the same for Barcelona in 2014-15.

After moving up to third in Liverpool’s all-time scoring list on Sunday (241 goals), there seems to be nothing standing in the way of Salah claiming even more records this season.
