Liverpool will host Manchester United on Sunday to play a blockbuster Premier League match at Anfield.
The Reds registered an encouraging 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night.
It wasn’t a vintage performance from Jurgen Klopp’s men who struggled to create chances. However, they did enough to secure victory.
Virgil Van Dijk broke the deadlock in the second half with a close-range header, minutes after Darwin Nunez’s goal was ruled out after a VAR review.
Mohamed Salah then turned in a Konstantinos Tsimikas cut-back to seal the points for the home side.
Liverpool are now sixth in the Premier League standings, with six points between them and fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United will enter Sunday’s game on the back of a 3-1 success over West Ham United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Red Devils looked in danger of getting knocked out of the competition after Said Benrahma made the breakthrough for the visitors early in the second half.
However, an own goal from Nayef Aguerd brought United back into the game. Alejandro Garnacho and Fred scored to put the hosts into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Can Liverpool salvage their 2022-23 campaign? They are on the brink of getting knocked out of the Champions League after suffering a 5-2 thrashing against Real Madrid in the first leg of their last 16 tie at Anfield. They are also out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
However, they can still finish in the Champions League places. Newcastle United have hit a slump in form, winning just one of their last seven top-flight matches.
Tottenham Hotspur have been inconsistent while Chelsea are eight points behind the Merseyside club in 10th. A good run of form could see the Reds pip Spurs to fourth place.
United have made huge progress since Erik ten Hag took over the club in 2022. They won their first silverware since 2017 in the Carabao Cup after beating Newcastle United in the final.
The Red Devils are still alive in the Europa League and the FA Cup. They are also top contenders to finish in the top four in the Premier League this season.
They may win the league crown, with United just six points behind second-placed Manchester City.

United had lost their previous three matches to Liverpool when the two sides met in August this term.
The Reds scored a combined nine goals against their fierce rivals in the two league encounters in 2021-22 without conceding a single goal.
However, Erik ten Hag’s side ended their dominance by edging the Old Trafford clash 2-1, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford netting the crucial goals.
The Merseyside club have been boosted by winning the home clash against Wolves. However, we are not backing them for success on Sunday as United are in impressive form at the moment.
In 17 games in 2023 (20 post-World Cup), United have scored two or three goals in 16 games (18 post-World Cup) and scored once in the rest.
Liverpool have played 15 games post-World Cup and been goalless only four times.
We expect both teams to score, but for United to have that extra edge when it counts.
