Saturday’s Premier League action closes out with a handsomely-looking encounter between Liverpool and Leeds United at Anfield.
Last weekend’s shocking 1-0 defeat away to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest marked the Reds’ third in the Premier League this term, already more than they had suffered in the entire 2021/22 (two).
Jurgen Klopp’s men did well to bounce back and put three unanswered goals past Ajax in midweek Champions League action to claim their place in the knock-out stages with a game to spare.
Though a 3-0 humbling of the Lancers, inspired by Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, was what the doctor ordered, the Anfield faithful cannot know which version of Liverpool they’ll get on gameweek.
Consistency has been the elephant in the room this season, with the Merseyside heavyweights blowing hot and cold across their opening 11 league outings (W4, D4, L3).
With fourth-placed Newcastle United five points away, any upcoming slip-up threatens to derail Liverpool’s bid to claw their way back into the top-four Premier League race.
Leeds’ forthcoming visit to Anfield could not have been timed any better for Klopp’s side, as their visitors are dealing with vast form issues of their own.
Despite taking the lead through Rodrigo Moreno against Fulham last time out, the Whites found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline at full-time, piling more pressure on under-fire boss Jesse Marsch.
After the Elland Road crowd sang Marcelo Bielsa’s name during a recent defeat, the American manager took to the press to admit ‘he’s sick of sack talks,’ as quoted by The Sun.
However, Marsch’s days in Yorkshire could be numbered come Saturday, especially should Leeds emulate the performance that saw them thrashed 6-0 on their most recent Premier League visit to Anfield.
Liverpool
Liverpool’s six-game unbeaten Premier League start at home (W4, D2) has been a rare bright spot in an otherwise frustrating 2022/23 season for last season’s runners-up.
It’s been a while since the Merseysiders last collapsed at Anfield as they head into proceedings undefeated in 29 consecutive home league fixtures (W22, D7), netting a staggering 73 goals in that sequence.
Another landslide victory over Leeds is well on the cards, considering Liverpool have won their last four Premier League H2Hs on home turf, scoring an average of four goals per game.
Leeds United
Since a 3-0 home trouncing of Chelsea in August, Leeds have gone winless in eight subsequent Premier League matches (D2, L6), accounting for the division’s worst ongoing streak without winning.
Unfortunately for visiting supporters, after coming out victorious in none of their last ten top-flight encounters against Liverpool (D3, L7), it’ll take something special from the Whites to get back to winning ways here.
Adding to this sentiment, Marsch’s men have faltered on their last four Premier League road trips, losing to sides currently languishing behind the Reds in the standings.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Harvey Elliott, Fabinho; Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino.
Leeds United (4-2-3-1): Illan Meslier; Pascal Struijk, Robin Koch, Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling; Marc Roca, Mateusz Klich; Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson, Jack Harrison; Rodrigo Moreno.

A failure is no longer an option for Liverpool, though the same goes for Leeds boss Marsch, making this a potentially ‘make or break’ fixture for both teams.
The Reds have the quality and the H2H stakes firmly on their side, and we back them to prove that on the field, perhaps even at the American’s future in Yorkshire.
