Liverpool veteran James Milner was delighted his new-look beard proved a lucky charm after victory in the Community Shield.

After the victory at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, the 36-year-old took to Twitter to reveal that he may keep his new-found look after his side marked its first outing by claiming their third trophy of 2022, tweeting: "One shave is all it takes. Delighted to have won my first trophy with a beard. Might need to keep it now. #YNWA "

Last week while at the club's European-based training camp in Austria, Milner revealed that it was because of his two close friends in the Reds' squad, Henderson and Robertson, that he had decided to sport the new look.

“A couple of weeks ago we were in Singapore, we were in the treatment room having a bit of craic and Hendo and Robbo were on me and said, 'Go on, you need to grow it.," explained Milner to Liverpoolfc.com.

“I said, 'Alright, why not? I'll do it for banter.' We'll see where it goes. They've got a month of growth; we're two weeks in so we'll see where it goes from here. They're in control of it, so if it's no good it's their fault!"
