Federico Chiesa is unlikely to join Liverpool this summer

Juventus and Italy’s star winger Federico Chiesa could end up staying in Italy this season as Liverpool have pulled out of the race after deeming him too expensive to sign this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Juventus rejected an £86million bid from Liverpool for Chiesa earlier this month. Chiesa scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists in 46 appearances for Juventus last season while he was also scintillating at the Euros.

He picked up two man-of-the-match awards in the tournament before going off injured in the final, which Italy eventually won against England. Thus, new Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has deemed the player ‘non-transferable‘ as he plans to incorporate him into the team this season.

Jurgen Klopp was thought to be considering Chiesa in one of the front three positions in his fluid 4-3-3 system. While there was no certainty on whether Chiesa would have been a starter, he could have certainly added quality depth in the attack for Liverpool.

The Reds have been looking into the transfer market for quality depth in their frontline as they face the prospect of losing Xherdan Shaqiri this summer. The Swiss has played his part over the years in helping Liverpool secure both the Champions League as well as the Premier League, and the Reds could need reinforcements if he decides to leave Anfield this summer.

To that end, Liverpool have been linked with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.

Liverpool have already signed Ibrahima Konaté from RB Leipzig this summer and the Reds could make a couple of more signings before they enter the new Premier League season, which is due to commence on the 14th of August.
