Journalist Emmet Gates reckons that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi all need to leave Liverpool.

The attacking trio have started just one Premier League between them this season and with that unlikely to change in the coming weeks, Gates has urged them to move on.

How have they performed this season?

Oxlade-Chamberlain played just 286 minutes across all competitions last season and whilst a long-term injury didn't help his chances of playing regularly, the former Arsenal man has been fit since before last Christmas and has still been continuously overlooked by Jurgen Klopp.

This season, both of his starts have come against Norwich, with his only other first-team action coming off the bench.

Meanwhile, Japanese international Minamino's only start in any competition came in the Carabao Cup tie at Carrow Road and he marked his first outing of the season by scoring twice, although his only other minutes was as a late substitute at Porto in the Champions League.

Origi scored the other goal against in the 3-0 victory at the Canaries in the cup, but like his two teammates, the Belgian's opportunities to impress have been few and far between, making just one other start which came in Europe.

Even Harvey Elliott's long-term absence isn't likely to improve any of the trio's chances of playing more often and Gates reckons that it's time for them to go.

What did Gates say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think those three would be the prime ones that need to go. But I think it's difficult to get rid of deadwood when they don't play."

Do they deserve to stay?

At this current moment, the three are all squad players at best. They all have the ability to play in several positions but are clearly not in Klopp's plans and are therefore likely to only get game-time against the lesser sides in the Premier League and then domestic cups.

With Oxlade-Chamberlain's start against Norwich the one between themselves all season, it's probably a hint that they need to move on and further their own careers.

This is perhaps harsh on Origi, who's generally delivered when called-upon by Klopp in recent years, but just two minutes in the league all season would suggest that the German no longer needs him.
