Liverpool target Perr Schuurs defends against Man Utd target Rasmus Hojlund.
Jurgen Klopp is eager to sign a ‘young defender’ and Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio and Torino’s Perr Schuurs have both emerged as top targets for Liverpool.
The Reds have already confirmed the signings of midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
They are expected to add another midfielder, with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia believed to be the club’s top target, and a report from The Telegraph has said Klopp wants to add a ‘young defender’ before the summer window closes.
Liverpool got Mac Allister and Szoboszlai for less than they would have had to pay for Jude Bellingham, which has justified their decision to abandon their pursuit of the England star.
Despite the shrewdness of the two signings, Mac Allister in particular, Klopp probably does not have a huge amount of money left to spend.
The sale of Thiago could help with interest coming from Saudi Arabia, though it does not appear the midfielder wants to leave before his contract expires next year.
There are two defenders who Liverpool can potentially land this summer without breaking the bank, with a bid being made for Schuurs while there is interest in Inacio.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), the Premier League side have had a bid ‘rejected’ by Torino for the former.
Said offer was apparently worth ‘around €30million’ (£25.6million) and Klopp has urged his bosses to sign the Dutchman ‘at any cost’.
Klopp’s side are facing competition from Italian champions Napoli, who have made an opening offer worth €25m, plus €3m in bonuses. The Naples outfit are also reportedly interested in signing Ibrahima Konate with Kim Min-jae expected to sign for Bayern Munich.
There is an expectation that Liverpool ‘will return with a second proposal’ and Torino president Urbano Cairo is hoping for an offer worth €40m (£34.2m) and it is ‘not excluded’ that the Reds will pay that fee.
While it is noted Schuurs is in no rush to leave the Serie A club, there is always the ‘irresistible seduction of the Premier League’ which could turn his head.
As mentioned prior, Liverpool are also interested in signing Sporting centre-back Inacio.
Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias (also via Sport Witness) believes Klopp is ‘not satisfied’ with his defence and has added the 21-year-old to his ‘list’ of targets.
Liverpool do not see Inacio’s €45m (£38.5m) release clause as a stumbling block, nor would it be for any other club in the Premier League.
