New-look Liverpool, in their period of transition under Arne Slot, are reportedly doing some shopping in Spain for a new star to anchor their midfield.
The player in question is 25-year-old Martín Zubimendi, who has spent his entire professional career at Real Sociedad and made over 40 appearances for the club last season.
According to Diario AS, though, the move could be a difficult one given the player’s release clause of €60 million.
Despite these concerns, talks between the two clubs are still set to take place, in order to see if they can agree a lower fee and disregard the release clause.
Barcelona and Arsenal have also reportedly made moves for the midfield star, but both approaches were met with rejection by player and club.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool remain the only club in the Premier League not to have made a signing so far this summer, meaning these talks are worth keeping an eye on.
Liverpool will be keen on obtaining a player of Zubimendi’s style and versatility, whilst Real Sociedad will be reluctant to let such a key player go.
